Your Child’s ABA Clinical Team at Opya Care: Everything Parents Need to Know

Starting ABA therapy can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re meeting a whole new team of professionals who will be working closely with your child. At Opya Care, we believe transparency builds trust. Here’s a clear, parent-friendly breakdown of who is on your child’s ABA clinical team, what each person does, and how everyone works together to support your child’s progress.

Who Makes Up My ABA Therapy Clinical Care Team?

Your child’s team is led by highly trained clinicians and supported by dedicated therapists. Here are the key roles:

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) A master’s-level practitioner who has met every requirement set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Your BCBA designs your child’s individualized treatment plan, chooses goals, analyzes data, and oversees the entire program.

Clinical Supervisor A master’s-level clinician who supports the BCBA (not all insurance plans include this role). They help ensure the treatment plan is implemented consistently day-to-day.

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) The therapist who works directly with your child every session. RBTs are nationally certified, have completed intensive training, and deliver the hands-on teaching and skill-building outlined in the treatment plan.

How Does the ABA Clinical Team Work Together?

You and your BCBA are the primary decision-makers. Together you choose goals and interventions that fit your child and family.

  • The Clinical Supervisor (when part of the team) helps the BCBA keep daily treatment on track.
  • Your RBT carries out the plan during every in-home or clinic session.
  • Everyone stays aligned through regular supervision, data review, and open communication with you.

How Much Experience Do Opya RBTs Have?

RBT is an entry-level credential, but that doesn’t mean “new and inexperienced.” Our RBTs range from brand-new graduates to seasoned therapists working toward their BCBA.

Every Opya RBT completes:

  • 40-hour RBT coursework
  • Competency assessment
  • National RBT exam
  • Opya-specific training
  • Ongoing supervision (at least 5% of hours) and annual renewal

We invest heavily in training and support so every RBT delivers high-quality, compassionate care.

What Happens During BCBA and Clinical Supervisor Oversight?

Your BCBA overlaps with your RBT for a minimum of 5% of therapy hours. During these supervision sessions they:

  • Observe your child’s response to teaching procedures
  • Review data in real time
  • Give immediate feedback to the RBT
  • Adjust the program based on what’s working (or not working)

The goal is continuous improvement—so your child keeps making meaningful progress.

Telehealth vs. In-Person Supervision: What’s the Difference?

Most supervision at Opya happens via secure telehealth—and research shows it is highly effective. Your BCBA can see the session clearly, review data, and coach the RBT in the moment.

In-person supervision is used when there’s a specific clinical reason or when the treatment location requires it. We arrange it as needed, but permanent in-person supervision isn’t always possible due to geography and scheduling.

Will I Ever See My BCBA In Person?

Your BCBA (and Clinical Supervisor when applicable) primarily supports the team through telehealth. In-person visits happen when clinically necessary. Case supervision of your RBT occurs at least once per week on average, so your child’s program is always closely monitored.

We’re Here for Your Family—Every Step of the Way

At Opya Care, your child’s ABA therapy is never “one-size-fits-all.” It’s a collaborative, compassionate partnership between you, your BCBA, your RBT, and (when part of the plan) your Clinical Supervisor.

We’re committed to thoughtful training, clear communication, and genuine care because we know how much trust it takes to hand your child’s development over to a team. You’re not just getting therapy—you’re gaining a dedicated support system that truly sees your child.
